Personal Philosophy

November 27, 2010 Leave a comment

As an aspiring educator and writer, my goal in life is to help others like myself become more in tune with their innate ability to write and to help people better understand works of arduous fiction.  I also believe that working with others is a joy and would want to pursue a career in any kind of writing, whether it be educational, secretarial, or governmental.  I work to provide for myself and my future, but I also am a proud proponent of enjoying the place that I work at.  I have worked in manual labor, food service, audio/visual, and other various blue collar jobs and have no intention on ever looking down on that part of my life or others who work hard within those fields.  Rather, I would like to value them as an important part of our society and our workforce.  As far as life goes, I am content with living in the now.  I have immediate goals and some long term goals, but the main place for me is the now.  I believe this is a good thing for business sense, because if you put all your focus on the future and forget about the immediate, you will tend to never get to where you intended to go with your idea.  I believe helping others can bring more gratification sometimes than helping yourself.

To just expound upon some things about my personal life, I enjoy sports and music.  Sports, for me, can seem as intricate and finely woven as a fine novel yet the storyline is playing out right before our eyes in a way that is the few other events can.  Music is one of the few things that can bring me joy, sorrow, anger, and happiness all within the course of one song.  I enjoy writing music as much as I do listening to it, for my own pleasure and for others if they so dare to listen.

Instructions

These are instructions I wrote to showcase my ability to further peoples writing ability.  It is written to help others learn how to write a sports article specifically.  This is intended for those familiar with the journalistic style of writing but unfamiliar with sports writing.

Cover Letter

This is a cover letter I wrote to theoretically apply for a job at Valencia Community College as an adjunct professor.  This is my ideal job position and I believe that I could be of great use to the college I end up working for.  Unfortunately, I won’t be able to work in this field until I obtain my Master’s degree but that is only a few more years of hard work and dedication away!

Sports Articles

As well as writing news articles, I have specifically written some sports articles.  I enjoy writing about teams and players that I am knowledgeable about and giving my opinions as well as recaps and overviews.  I tend to write on Florida sports, specifically focusing on Orlando Magic and University of Central Florida Football, but am starting to branch out beyond this.

Audience Statement

November 23, 2010 Leave a comment

The main purpose for this page would be directed towards people looking for an easy directory for samples of my writing.  As most of these people would be future employers, including my resume and others is a must.  I predict that most of the people I would show this too would probably be people I do not have direct contact with and can only deal with through the internet.  Fortunately, I’m not planning on doing anything extremely technical but would rather showcase my writing skills, hence the weak presentation of this website is not as big of a deal.  If I actually planned on using this website, I would hire someone to perform the design tasks for me.  For my audience, they will most likely be looking for samples of my writing, published and unpublished, so I have presented those with an easy navigation system.  Each thing that I have included includes a brief personal reflection on the work provided and what it means to the employer and to me.  I’ve also added, through the personal statement, more about myself so the potential employer will be allowed to know what kind of person I am and my ideas on writing and what I intend to do with it.  I do think that despite the fact that this site is not very useful for me particularly to show someone, it is a good place to have all my resume material on the internet where I can get it from anywhere.  If I were to make this a private website, I could use it as storage for all of my career material.
